Description:

Mercadier was born in 1860 in Paris and died in 1929. He was a famous baritone singer. One of his most famous songs was Quand les lilas refleuriront.

Yet dating 1901, this cylinder was still recorded at the lower 120rpm speed so as to allow 2m44s of recording time. The specimen presented here was made by Pathé and sold at the Grand Bazar of Marseille, a large department store. Note the early mauve box, which was usually replaced by the beige one with the label mentioning the 1900 Universal Exhibit in Paris.
